A torn Europe or an Europe of solidarity

Press release of Focus Ireland

“Members of the European Alliances to Fight Poverty warned on their seminar at Dublin the 12th of May that austerity measures across EU States are failing and leading to a “Torn Europe” with rising poverty and unemployment rates, and highlighted that the burden of tackling the economic crisis falling too heavily on those living in poverty.

The stark warning to EU governments came at the start of a two day conference “Torn Europe” at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin to address the question of how EU social and economic policy is impacting on poverty during the crisis and what people can do about it.

The second day focuses on housing and homelessness in Europe.”

Thanks to all who attended today.
